Millie | A Golden Pothos Gets a Second Season

Meet Millie - Isn't she BEAUTIFUL!? Millie started with a little crock I definitely didn't NEED...

I was wandering through thrift shops with a good friend of mine... quality time on a weekend, doing something we both love... coffee in hand, a little walking and conversation and casually browsing the cute thrift stores along West 7th In St Paul. I spotted this pretty old cream/grey-colored crock with golden flowers painted across the front and the word BLOOM tucked into the design.

I picked it up... put it back down,.. and then naturally, picked it back up again, Sorry, but I loved it. If you know me, you know that almost everything In my apartment Is thrifted, gifted, found by the dumpster or made by yours truly. I didn't know If If would be come another accent In my apartment, or If It would be the start to my Second Season collection, but I knew It was coming home with me! It had a charm and reminded me of the crocks I would see In my childhood... maybe at my grandma's house. This one isn't very old, but It gave that feel to me.

Eventually, this beautiful Golden Pothos I had been propagating made its home here.

She is still little... just a couple of leaves and some well- established roots, she looks beautiful in this crock. It just felt like a place she belonged. Golden Pothos are trailing plants, so she won't stay this little forever. As she grows, her vines will eventually begin spilling over the sides, and with plenty of light, her leaves should develop even more of that beautiful golden variegation.

Naming her was important. I have so many plants of my own., it's hard to name them all, but secretly (between us - don't tell them), my favorites have names, Millie happens to be one of my favorites, and she deserved a name, That's how The Second Season will go.... they will all have names that seem to fit them.

I think that's one of my favorites things about her. She's not really a finished piece. She will change and grow. The crock already has its little marks and imperfections from the life it had before I found it in that thrift shop on West 7th - and now Millie gets to grow into it and give it an entirely different one.

Taking Care of Millie

Millie likes bright, indirect light, but she's pretty forgiving if your home isn't flooded with sunshine. Let the top couple inches of soil dry out between waterings - she'd much rather be a little thirsty than sit in soggy soil. Give her some time, light and love, and eventually those little vines will start making their way over the edge of her crock.
